Eh, what’s this?
Q: Why do you have big corporate bastard advertising on this site?
A: Great question, and I couldn’t have phrased it better myself! It’s time for this site to pay for itself – I’m not looking to make money off of it, but I’m tired of shelling out money that could be spent on punk records to pay for the site. First, I tried the mail order strategy, which is more work and money than it’s worth right now while I’m in school. You can still buy music from the mail order, but I won't be adding any new titles for now. Then, I tried the “supported by the punk scene” strategy: I emailed about 15 of the big punk labels (household names, folks) to get advertising money ($40 per year) in exchange for posting their links on this site – I got ONE half-assed response with a ridiculous counteroffer. Evidently, they feel all their old zine ads and band interviews/reviews should be hosted for free. Next, I tried the donations route, which I knew would never work, but there has been a little success recently. The final plan is this big corporate bastard advertising thing. I do use Doteasy, and they've always been cool with me. I don't know anything about the Google stuff, so you'll have to look into it. Anyway, if you don’t want to see these other ads, tell some of these punk labels/distros (or anyone selling stuff to punks) to kick in some money in exchange for a link on the site - this site gets tons of traffic. Until that happens, we all get to deal with it. Have a nice day!
